Dealing with difficult characters in the workplace

We coach people to work more effectively with difficult characters, and in doing so keep their integrity and professional reputation intact. In most cases, we can teach you strategies to win-over difficult characters, so that they become your allies.

Dealing with difficult characters in the workplace is one of the most common causes of stress and discomfort at work. It usually leaves the person on the receiving-end feeling confused, upset, undermined, frustrated or even scared.  Sometimes it can lead to a feeling of powerlessness or psychological distress. Difficult characters don’t usually respond in the way you expect to your tried and tested open communication and reasoning skills.

Our workplace difficult characters may:

  • put their own needs before the organisation’s

  • go around you to get what they need

  • ignore you or give you less attention than your colleagues

  • present your ideas as their own

  • blame you for things that they did

  • treat you differently or unfairly from others

  • put you down you in front of others

  • have a personality disorder such as narcissism, mild psychopathy, sociopathy or histrionic personality disorder, to name a few!

At Communication Counts we offer masterclasses, on-line training and individual coaching on how to identify and deal with difficult characters at work, and maintain your reputation, integrity and inner-peace. All our programmes can be tailored to your organisation’s goals and values.
